French Victorian hardstone pearl and gold cameo brooch pendant circa 1870. Depicting the profile of a noble woman wearing an elaborate head dress, within a radiating 18-karat gold frame studded with pearls and filigree details at matching intervals, to the surmounted bail set with a trio of graduating pearls, the bail and pin stem both detachable for convenience in wearing the jewel as either a brooch or a pendant. A hidden compartment on the back side features a beveled crystal cover. We love the fine carving and the peaceful serenity reflected in the woman’s face, her simple and not so simple head dress. Looking at her sends the imagination in flight with a strong desire to enter the depths of her thoughts. With the best of intentions, compelled to linger on the forbidden intimacy and getting to know her, kind of as if she were Mona Lisa. We also love that she is special in another way. Her head is facing left. Typically, most of these type of cameos carvings feature the head facing right. And what about the versatility of having two jewels in one? What is there not to love about that? Overall, this is a substantial cameo that remains in very pristine condition consistent with age and wear. Celebrate Yourself and consider this fabulous cameo as your very own personal treat for Yourself today. And if that won’t be the case, just imagine how Happy you will make that special woman in your life by gifting this excellent Victorian hardstone cameo as a token of your loving care and affection.
