Victorian 1880s grapevine gold brooch with amethyst and seed pearls. The Victorians ingenuity and their unbridled quest for delightful aesthetics and sensibilities never fails to amaze and impress our modern eyes and our appreciation for their talent. A round amethyst, as if the grape itself, sets the theme for this entirely handcrafted jewel, framed by a garland of curling grape leaves concealing tiny grape clusters (just like they do in real life), within a border of seed pearls, an abundance of tiny seed pearls, as in the abundance of a harvest, to the mounting enriched with hand applied gold cording, and then there are those tiny fleur-de-lis-shaped prongs that hold the amethyst in place. One has to stop, wonder and admire how much thought and energy was poured into the making of this magnificent example of Victorian obsession with aesthetics, all composed from elements we might not consider too precious in our electronic age. Values change. Luckly, examples such as this survive for us moderns to consume, collect and cherish the customs of their time. Yes, something from a long time ago that has been lovingly looked after. That is what makes our hearts tick and our senses delight with pleasure. It takes a caring heart and a discerning eye! For over three decades Jacob's Diamond & Estate Jewelry has been in the business of selling a carefully curated collection of genuine antique and estate jewelry.
